Caltrans announced it will hold a public meeting Feb. 20 to provide information on two upcoming Caltrans projects in Humboldt County, including the Richardson Grove Improvement Project and the 3rd and R Street Median Project.

The meeting will be held at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka from 5 to 8 p.m.

A formal presentation on the Richardson Grove Improvement Project, including a question-and-answer period, will take place from 6 to 7 p.m.

The purpose of the Richardson Grove Improvement Project is to allow larger, industry-standard sized trucks access to the North Coast from the south through slight adjustments to the current alignment of Route 101 at Richardson Grove without removing any old growth redwood trees, according to Caltrans.

The purpose of the 3rd and R Street Median Project is to install raised median islands on R Street near the intersection of 3rd Street intended to increase safety for pedestrians crossing R Street and direct vehicular traffic.

There will be informational displays on both projects and project staff present to answer questions.

Another public meeting on the Richardson Grove Improvement Project will be held at the time of the circulation of the draft environmental document, which is expected to take place in April.
