Soroptimist International of Humboldt Bay will hold a new fundraising event, Take a Walk in Her Shoes, to benefit women and girls throughout the community. Those attending will watch 15 prominent men from the community walk in women’s shoes. Event activities begin at 5:30 p.m. on April 9 at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka.
According to a Soroptimist International of Humboldt Bay news release, the event is based on the saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you have walked in their shoes.”
Proceeds from donations and pledges made on behalf of the participants will be used by the Soroptimist club to fund scholarships and awards.
“This event is new to the community and we appreciate the willingness of the participants to step forward and help bring awareness to women’s issues,” said Nancy Woods, club president. “Soroptimist is an organization that promotes the best for women and girls. Since women’s issues affect everyone, our club wants to hold an event that supports women in stepping up and taking control of their lives.”
Participants in this year’s event will be Rex Bohn, Tim Cissna, John Dalby, Murl Harpham, J Warren Hockaday, Mike Jones, Jeff Leonard, Robert Lima, Tim Lorenzo, Garr Nielsen, Jim Redd, Eric Smith, Jimmy Smith, David Tyson and Dale Warmuth.
A reception will follow the show. Those unable to attend who would like to donate may mail donations to Soroptimist International of Humboldt Bay, P.O. Box 96, Eureka, CA 95502.
Soroptimist International of Humboldt Bay is a local branch of Soroptimist International, the world’s largest service organization for business, professional and executive women, the release stated. For more information, phone event coordinator Carolynn Thomas at 707-441-9525.
