On Friday, April 4, the Mateel Community Center in Redway will be hosting an evening of indigenous reggae with Katchafire and Tchiya Amet and The Lighthouse Band, a news release stated.

This will be Katchafire’s first tour of the western U.S., and the performance at the Mateel is being called in the release as being one of the tour’s highlights.

Comprised of full-blooded Maoris, the native people of New Zealand, Katchafire’s music is their island interpretation of roots reggae.

Opening the show will be local Mendocino County band, Tchiya Amet and The Lighthouse Band. A First Nations Cherokee, Amet’s music is a soul and jazz version of roots reggae. DJ Sister Yasmin will also be performing.

Tickets will be on sale at local outlets and online at www.inticketing.com. For more information, phone 707-923-3368. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and live music will begin at 8 p.m.
