The Arcata City Council has extended the application filing period for an opening on the Committee on Democracy and Corporations.
There is one vacancy on the committee completing a term expiring July 31, 2009. Community residents may apply.
The Committee on Democracy and Corporations consists of seven members who research options on how the community is taking action to control “pattern restaurants” from moving into downtown areas; cooperate with other communities that are working on socially responsible investing; advise the City Council on ways to promote “free and fair trade,” advise the council on ordinances and actions the community can take regarding corporations that committee members believe have negative social and environmental impacts; and work to develop a policy that the city council can implement to not do business with corporations that violate fair labor standards and/or environmental laws.
Members must reside or work within Arcata.
Members attend monthly meetings and serve without compensation.
For more information, phone the city manager’s office at 707-822-5953.
Applications may be obtained at City Hall, 736 F St., Arcata, between 9 a.m. and noon, and from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or online at www.cityofarcata.org.
The deadline for receiving applications is April 25 at 5 p.m.
I would do NOTHING to help the city of arcata, The City with the Heart of Stone. The care nothing for the residents of it's city. The steal from the poor to create a clubhouse for their stupid ball park. I pray that someday the city council experiences the poverty that they REFUSE to help ease. The have the short sighted view that most of arcata's homeless are from elsewheres. Not so! The majority of the individuals that the Endeavor services are long time residents who come on hard times.
I call for a boycott of ALL BUSINESSES in arcata until they change their policy. I have friends who usually come and visit me in the summer, but I encourage them to spend their money in a town which supports its poor. I have also relocated my family reunion, which was to take place in arcata, to Santa Monica, which spends money on there homeless.
Homelessness is a global social problem. If you are offended by the sight of the poor move to Antarctica, before it melts. Because every community has poor homeless.
I no longer capitalize the initial 'a' in arcata or america, until these governments again find their soul and heart.
