McKinleyville loses in extra-innings

McKinleyville fought back from a nine-run deficit, but could not close the gap as it lost to Miramonte 10-9 in the opening round of the Fort Bragg Tournament on Friday.

“We played well, but didn’t bring any intensity until late in the game,” said McKinleyville head coach Dustin Dutra.
“The lesson we learned was to start off the game with the same intensity we finished with.”

Jake Masterson was the losing pitcher, recording two walks while allowing one hit and one run.

John Stull led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-for-6 with an RBI.

McKinleyville drops to 1-5 with the loss and continues tournament play today.

Ferndale 10, Point Arena 7

At the Robert Graves Memorial Tournament, Ferndale went on a seven-run rally in the seventh inning to beat Point Arena.

Going into the last inning, the Wildcats trailed 7-3, but charged back to knot-up the score at 7-7.

With two outs, Ferndale’s Jake Morris came through with a two-run triple which scored teammates Matt Pedrotti
and Andrew Matyshock, breaking the 7-7 tie.

Leading the Wildcats on offense, Kyle Matyshock, Chase Brodt, Andrew Matyshock and Pedrotti all had two hits,
while Morris, Ross Sutton and Matt Adams all had one.

Ferndale improves to 4-2-1 and its next game is against Upper Lake in the consolation match today.
