St. Bernard’s used dominant pitching and timely hitting to take both ends of a baseball doubleheader at Cloverdale on Saturday, winning game one 7-2 and game two 7-4.
In the first game, Andrew Ayers tossed four innings on the mound in relief of Josh Genevro to pick up the win, striking out five, walking two and not allowing a hit.
The Crusaders banged out 11 hits in the game and David Del Grande went 2-for-5 with three RBIs
In the second game, Josh Black picked up the win by going four innings, striking out two, and allowing two hits in relief of Ayers.
At the plate, St. Bernard’s was led again by Del Grande, who had three hits, including a double, while Ayers added a hit and drove in two runs.
“I think they came out and hit well, and we pitched outstanding,” Dale Del Grande said. “ Genevro threw a heck of a game in the first game.”
St. Bernard’s improved to 7-2 with the sweep.
