McKinleyville’s Josh Boyer hit a two-out, two RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and the Panthers came from behind to beat Brookings 4-3 on Monday at Brookings.
Boyer finished 1-for-1 on the day, while Jeff Hudson picked up the win on the mound, pitching the last three innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
“It was a tight one,” said McKinleyville head coach Dustin Dutra.
Other hitters for McKinleyville were John Stull, who finished 1-for-2, Cody Hay, who went 1-for-3 and Colby Reynolds, who was 1-for-3.
The Panthers play next on Saturday in their Big Five opener against Del Norte at 11 a.m.

Loggers place eighth at Pleasant Valley
Eureka’s Andy Clayton tied for second overall with a one-over 73 at the Pleasant Valley Invitational at Chico on Monday.
Clayton was one stroke away from the tournament’s low score, while as a team, the Loggers shot a 436, and finished eighth out of 18 teams.
“I was very happy with how we played today,” said Eureka head coach Duane Peterson. “I’ve been seeing a lot of improvement.”
Eureka’s Zack Glidden finished with a score of 85, Casey Lund shot an 86, while Robert Canepa and Brendon Morgan each shot 96s.
The Loggers will compete in an exhibition match today at the Riverview Country Club in Redding, and will return to Humboldt-Del Norte Conference play on Thursday at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course.
