Arcata and Del Norte split a Big Five doubleheader on Saturday, with the Tigers winning the opener 10-0, and the Warriors taking the nightcap 8-6.
In the first game, Arcata’s D.J. Hancock pitched a complete game for the win, striking out two and walking two.
Conor Byrne led the Tigers’ offense, going 2-for-3, while teammates Hancock, Alex Cunha; Nick Nova; Derek Stone and Andrew Nelson each contributed a base hit.
The Warriors got base hits from Kyler Davis, Chad Freeman, Joe Yeoman and Michael Stroupe.
Del Norte’s Logan Lesina went the distance on the mound during the nightcap, striking out two and walking five for the win.
Josh Yeoman went 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors at the plate, while teammate Tyler Travis went 2-for-5.
The games brought Arcata’s record to 4-1 in league and 11-5 overall, while Del Norte’s record is now 3-2 and 8-11-1.
Arcata’s next game is at Eureka on Wednesday, whereas Del Norte hosts a doubleheader with Fortuna on Saturday.
Softball

The Warriors got two solid performances from pitcher Chenone Blake, who threw two complete games and retired a total of 17 batters as Hoopa sweep South Fork in a Little Four doubleheader.
Blake also led the Warriors offensively, going 4-for-4 with a double in the opener, while teammate Pateisha Ferris went 3-for-5.
South Fork’s Kelesy Stillwell, Larrissa Harrison and Faliecia Horn each had one base hit in the loss.
In the nightcap, Jessica Ammon stole the show, hitting two home runs and going 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors at the plate.
Harrison and Horn had the Cubs only two hits of the game.
With the wins, Hoopa improved to 4-0 in league and 13-2 overall, while South Fork dropped to 0-4 and 2-10.
Fortuna 7, Eureka 6
Eureka 12, Fortuna 9
Fortuna’s Caylin Crivelo was the winning pitcher of the opener, and Eureka’s Jessica Latham was the winning pitcher of the nightcap as the Huskies and the Loggers split a Big Five doubleheader.
Fortuna’s record is now 1-3 in league and 7-7-1 overall, while Eureka’s record is 1-2 and 3-9.
Sara Pricer hit a home run in the opener for Eureka, while teammate Kristina Pomeroy went 2-for-4.
