League of Women Voters to hold forum on rails and trails

The League of Women Voters of Humboldt County announced they have scheduled a community forum to present the public with unbiased information regarding the feasibility of trails or the railroads in Humboldt County.

The League wants to help the public to become better informed about the issues surrounding the development of Humboldt Bay in regards to railroads and trails, as well as to facilitate a dialogue between those involved and those who wish to know more.

The “Rails and Trails: A Balanced Forum on the Development of Humboldt Bay” event is scheduled for Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Eureka High School’s new lecture hall.

League of Women Voters member Byrd Lochtie will moderate the event, which will include an opportunity for questions.

The panel of speakers will include Brian Morrissey, of Security National, Marcus Brown , president of the Timber Heritage Association, Third District Supervisor John Woolley, also a director with the North Coast Railroad Authority, Patrick Higgins, a Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District Commissioner, Spencer Clifton, executive director of the Humboldt County Association of Governments and Mike Beuttner, of the Trails Trust of Humboldt.

Participants are encouraged to park in the J and Humboldt streets parking lot.
