Green Wheels of Humboldt, a group of students and residents concerned about the improvement and promotion of sustainable transportation at Humboldt State University and in the wider community, held its Green Wheels Gala Friday evening at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Arcata.

State and local officials gathered together for the dinner and dance benefit with friends and members of Green Wheels to celebrate the combined efforts individuals have made to reduce single-occupancy automobile use by encouraging alternate forms of transportation.

One alternate form of valet parking was available for partygoers who arrived via bicycle. Valet attendant and Green Wheels member Victor Shen, above, prepares to pedals off to park one of the bicycles brought to the event.

Micah Welch provided local foods and the members of The Absynth Quintet provided music. Adventure’s Edge donated a “specialized” Hard Rock XC Sport bike for a drawing.
