Ferndale had 11 hits and took advantage of nine walks in the opening game of a doubleheader at Hoopa on Saturday, beating the Warriors 8-5, but Hoopa came right back in the nightcap to win 7-5 and force a split.
Ferndale’s Jake Morris went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and run in the game.
Ferndale’s Ross Sutton went all seven innings with four strikeouts and three walks to get the win in the opener, allowing just three hits, while at the plate, Ferndale’s Andrew Matyshock delivered a two-out, RBI single to score the go-ahead run in the sixth.
In the nightcap, despite a Sutton home run in the first inning, Hoopa starting pitcher Junior Davis bore down on the mound, striking out nine in six innings for the win.
Hoopa, which led 5-1 after five innings, and after the Wildcats came back to tie in the top of the sixth, the Warriors scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the frame for the win.
Hoopa’s Lonnie Risling went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the second game, while Shane Nixon was 2-for-3 with a run.
After the split, the two teams remain tied in the Little Four at 3-3.

Warriors sweep Fortuna, remain unbeaten
Del Norte starting pitcher Alyssa Bergquist threw a complete-game no hitter as the Lady Warriors beat Fortuna 11-0 and 14-4 in a Big Five doubleheader at Crescent City on Friday, improving the team to 17-1 overall and 7-0 in league.
Del Norte had 12 hits in the opener, with Bergquist throwing a no-hit shutout.
The wins extend Del Norte’s winning streak to 13 games, and the team has not lost a match since March 29 against Ukiah.
Both teams play next on Wednesday as Del Norte travels to McKinleyville and Fortuna plays at Arcata.
