Volunteer Antonia Chacon from Heart of the Redwoods Horse Rescue rinses off Sadie, a short-haired German pointer, after giving her a bath at the dog wash station at the Farm Store’s Spring Adoption Event, held Saturday in Eureka.

This year’s event was exclusive to local organizations, and ranged from pet food vendors; shelter and rescue groups; and grooming, obedience and veterinary providers. Humboldt County Future Farmers of America chapters held cow, lamb and chicken “pie” contests, and 4-H members provided barbecued fare. Farm Store owner Tim Shreeve said he was pleased with the turnout and the warm sunshine at this year’s event. Daniel Solomon/The Eureka Reporter
