In April, we all expect to be hit with the occasional rainfall, which is where I suppose the old saying “April showers bring May flowers” comes from, but attendees at the annual Eureka Republican Women’s Tea were greeted by a sunny, albeit windy day Friday, April 18.

Guests Anita Rest, Cathy Ray Pierson, Jim Pell, Kay Parris, Kay Peake, Barbara Hecathorn, Claire White, Donna Hunter and Joyce Mather excitedly entered the beautiful home of Lynda Pozel and Jack Hopkins to enjoy a day of tea, fashion and unadulterated fun with close friends. The ladies and gentlemen were in for a slight twist to the annual tea, as this year’s event included a stunning fashion show.

Attendees had the pleasure of being greeted by Vee Sorenson, this year’s Republican of the Year, as they entered the extraordinary home. The bright, inviting home made everyone feel welcome with the beautifully decorated rooms and the fresh-cut spring flowers that adorned every room.

Marc Matteoli proudly introduced daughter Joelle to fellow attendees. Joelle, in addition to other young volunteers, expertly served the afternoon’s delicious delicacies. In addition to all of the wonderful foods that awaited, another treat of the day was admiring all of the interesting hats that adorned many heads. Guest Terry Roberts went to the true Americana look and dressed completely in red, white and blue. Anita Rest wore one of the beautiful hats from the Clarke Museum. Not to be left out in showing the true spirit of the event, Realtor Marc Matteoli chose a gem of a straw hat for the festive occasion.

Attendees Ann Clark, Margaret Stafford, Connie Mortensen, Eileen Amos, Betty Vinson, Nancy Taylor, Irene Schultz and JoAnn Stanhope were poured tea from fabulous antique sterling silver teapots to accompany assorted sandwiches, cookies, chocolate-dipped strawberries, fruit and much more.

Midway through the event, selected fashions from The Irish Shop and Cotton Works were modeled for attendees. The fashion show helped get all of us in the mood for shopping.

Past Presidents Vee Sorenson, Joy Finley, Sheryl Fearrien and Eileen Amos gathered and agreed to a photograph.

John Vevoda, who is currently running for 1st District supervisor, took time out of his busy schedule to attend with wife Kris.

HUMBOLDT SPONSORS

I’ve received so much positive feedback about last week’s column on Humboldt Sponsors, with many people wanting to know how to join and get involved. Humboldt Sponsors is hosting one of its four major fundraisers, the annual Wine & Brew, on May 15 at Avalon Restaurant from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets for the event are $25 each. We encourage everyone to come out and have a great time while supporting a local nonprofit organization.

About Town provides lively coverage of Humboldt County’s social events, style, galas, charity events, hot property, restaurants and other happenings about town.
