Cheryl Lynn John: July 19, 1951 – April 28, 2008
Cheryl Lynn John passed on April 28, 2008, following an extended illness. Cheryl was born on July 19, 1951, in Long Beach, Calif. She passed away peacefully after returning from a brief hospital stay. She was 56 years old.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Brad John of Arcata; daughter Amy John-Headley (Jason) of San Francisco and son Garret John (Heather) of Los Angeles. Cheryl was extremely proud of her two children and their accomplishments.
Cheryl grew up in the Los Angeles area and attended Western High School and Humboldt State University for two years, majoring in Pre-Med. She then transferred to Marquette University in Wisconsin to complete her BS degree in Dental Hygiene. She graduated in 1974 with honors. Following graduation, she and Brad returned to Humboldt County and moved to the Fieldbrook area, where they built their home. Cheryl successfully pursued her career in dental hygiene and worked in that field for twenty-five years.
Cheryl’s extended family includes her brothers; Scott Bruffy (Debbie) of Spartan, N.J., Chris Bruffy (Peggy) of the Los Angeles area, and nieces and nephews Kevin, Kyle and Kaitlin Bruffy.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Norman and Colleen Bruffy and her brother, Stephen Bruffy.
Cheryl regularly attended a local church and had an active faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. It was her faith in God that sustained her through her last days.
A memorial service will be held on May 10, at 3 p.m., at Trinity Baptist Church located at 2450 Alliance Road in Arcata. Memorial contributions may be made in Cheryl’s name by sponsoring a child through Compassion International at www.compassion.com or to the Art for Life Studio, c/o Jan Ramsey, Humboldt County Mental Health, 720 Wood Street, Eureka.
