Olga Kathryn Brosek has gone to heaven at the age of 86, having succumbed to a short-lived bout with cancer.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Conrad Brosek; her parents, Adam and Mildred “Mimi” Galius; and her brother, Glenn. She is survived by Conrad’s brother, Ivan Brosek Jr. and his wife Margaret; nephew, Blake Adam Galius; niece, Deborah and husband Will Dale; niece, Christine and husband Michael Godwin; nephew, Edward Shaniuk; nephew, Michael Shaniuk; nephew, James Shaniuk and wife Pamela; and two grand nephews, three grand nieces, and great grand niece and nephew.

Olga was born in Tonawanda, N.Y., and later moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where her parents owned a tavern. She graduated from Dover Village High School in 1939, and graduated Cum Laude in Sociology from Baldwin-Wallace College with special honors in Philosophy. Olga married Conrad in 1956, in Pasadena, Calif., and they established residence in San Gabriel. She served as Office Manager, Bookkeeper and Credit Manager for Security Paint Mfg. Co. for three years. Olga maintained the same duties with Delta Management Corporation in San Marino for one year when they decided to move to Camarillo. They purchased a home on Murray Avenue and developed a life-long friendship with Jim and Sue Bailey. Olga then obtained a position of Secretary-Treasurer for Haaland & Associates. It was in 1987 they sold this home and traveled up the coast and decided to settle in the cool coastal climate of McKinleyville.

They built their lovely home which included a wonderful sewing room, where Olga would perfect the art of sewing and knitting. Combined with Mimi’s expert needle point, their handiwork was cherished by all. Olga and Conrad would benefit the community in many ways. Re-binding books for the McKinleyville Library was a favorite pastime. They reached out by supporting many local charities and Christ The King Catholic Church. Olga spent much time on the computer, fashioning artistic letters and maintaining a steady stream of e-mails with the many family and friends nationwide. One valued friendship was shared with Alison Sweeten and Mel Carr, who were a great source of support and care in most recent years. Her calendar was well marked and she always recognized birthdays, anniversaries, and other events with a thoughtful card and/or gift. Her sharp wit and great sense of humor endeared her to all who came into contact with her. She was well versed on many topics, including religion, politics, and sports. She was a gourmet cook and supported a large collection of cookbooks to tantalize all who sat at her table, which was open to all who crossed her door path. Her faith in God has preserved her a place in his kingdom, but she will remain in our hearts forever. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Mad River Hospital whose thoughtful care and concern was a great relief to both Olga, and her family and friends.

You are invited to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. May 17, 2008 at Greenwood Cemetery in Arcata, where she will be reunited with Conrad. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make a donation in the name of the Conrad and Olga Brosek Trust to the Humboldt Area Foundation.
