Following a grueling four-day workout session at the Bengals’ rookie mini-camps over the weekend, Eureka High graduate and former Nebraska wide receiver Maurice Purify is expected to sign a contract with Cincinnati this week, according to his agent Gary Glick.

“It looks like we’re going to sign with them,” Glick said on Monday. “He got really good reviews at mini-camp and we’re just working out some of the details with the contract, making sure it’s all in perfect form.”

Purify, who became an undrafted free agent when he was not chosen by an NFL team during the NFL Draft April 26 and 27, was recruited by Cincinnati to attend rookie mini-camps from Thursday to Sunday.

Glick said that Purify gave a strong performance in all areas and impressed the Bengals’ front office.

“Overall they said he did a really good job. They said he ran his routes well, he caught the ball and he looked sharp,” Glick said. “They also interviewed him extensively about these off-the-field things, and they loved his responses. They liked the guy that he is, and they said he represented himself well.”

Purify, however, is not completely out of the water yet when it comes to his off-the-field distractions.

The Lincoln Journal Star reported on Tuesday that Lancaster County prosecutors have filed to have Purify’s probation revoked, based on an allegation that he had used alcohol in California against a probation order.

Purify was given a year of probation and fined $1,250 following two alcohol-related arrests last summer (one for assault, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest May 5, and a DUI on June 8).

According to the Star, Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Eric Miller said the state wants to pursue the probation revocation, but they need time to research what constitutes good cause of a violation. They expect to take up the issue May 20.

Hey, it's informative to see some information on the "off-field" things. Whether it's good or bad, it's a big part of the player's story. Good job.
