Caltrans is inviting the public to attend an open house meeting Wednesday to review maps and project information as it formally initiates the project and environmental review process for operational improvements on U.S. Route 101 near Richardson Grove.

The open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the River Lodge Conference Center at 1800 Riverwalk Dr. in Fortuna. The project area includes Route 101 from 1.1 to 2.2 miles north of the Mendocino County line.

The intent of the project is to make minimal roadway improvements to allow Surface Transportation Assistance Act trucks and improve large, recreational vehicle access, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans is proceeding with the preparation of environmental assessment for the project and is seeking to provide the public with more opportunity to comment prior to draft environmental document circulation.

Caltrans staff will be available to answer questions and receive comments or suggestions for consideration during the project development and environmental documentation process.

There will be additional opportunities to attend future public meetings regarding this project. Those unable to attend may provide written comments that must be submitted prior to June 10 to Caltrans, Attn: Kimberly Floyd, Project Manager, PO Box 3700, Eureka, CA, 95502.

Project information will also be available for review on the project Web site at www.dot.ca.gov/dist1/d1projects/richardson_grove/.

For more information about this study, contact Project Manager Kimberly Floyd at 707-441-5739.
