George Leandro Oliver, 87, of Apache Junction, Ariz., passed away April 11, 2008. He was born Feb. 27, 1921, to Antone and Rita Oliver, who lived on a dairy farm in Grizzly Bluff. George worked at the dairy until 1950, when the family moved to the town of Ferndale. On Dec. 19, 1954, he married Maxine Jennings and resided in Ferndale until moving to Oregon in 1969.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Joseph, Eugene and Thomas; and sisters Mary (Domingo) Silva, Madelene (Walt) Gorski, Anne (Dorse) Hite, Emily Oliver and Alice Oliver.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maxine; three daughters, LeAnn Oliver, married to Dan Thomas, Linda (Jeff) Parra and Lori (Mike) DeVault; a son, Lawrence Oliver; granddaughter Kelsey Woodruff; and grandsons Jacob and Joshua DeVault.
George worked in construction for 40 years while maintaining a small farm, and traveled extensively after retiring. George was a loving and devoted husband and father and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. on May 15 at the Church of the Assumption on Berding Street in Ferndale. A burial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on May 16, followed by a reception at the church hall immediately afterward.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the hospice of your choice.
