St. Joseph Health System is celebrating National Health Care Week from May 11 through May 17, which traces its origins back to 1921 in Chicago.

This year’s theme is “Where healing happens every day,” which acknowledges America’s hospitals as positive, vital places that promote health and well-being, according to a news release.

Employees at St. Joseph Hospital will be honored during a barbecue lunch Monday while Redwood Memorial Hospital Employees will be honored during a barbecue on Wednesday. The week ends with the hospitals’ annual service awards banquet on Thursday, where the hospitals will honor staff, physicians and volunteers who have reached service milestones of up to 45 years.

“The people who work at St. Joseph and Redwood Memorial hospitals provide invaluable services for this community,” said Joe Mark, chief executive of St. Joseph Hospital. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every member of our staff for the skill and professionalism they exhibit in caring for our patients.”
