The American Cancer Society Youth Relay for Life will be held May 16 and 17 at Eureka High School’s Albee Stadium. The event co-chairpersons are Trevor David and Ryan Cameron.

This year will mark the fifth consecutive year of the Youth Relay for Life. Over the past four years, this youth-led event has generated more than $125,000 for the American Cancer Society. Currently, the Youth Relay for Life in Humboldt County is the only high school Youth Relay for Life in the state of California and is one of 10 in the United States. The theme for this year’s relay will be “A Night at the Carnival”; the plans for this theme are to have booths with games and food for all of the students to enjoy. According to a news release, the goal this year is to have more than 40 teams (400 students) and to raise more than $40,000.

Local bands and musicians are needed to play at the event. Music should be appropriate for all ages, since this is a public event, the release stated, and positive, because this event is intended to be a celebration of life and a remembrance to those who have died from cancer. To secure a performance, e-mail youthrelay4life@hotmail.com or phone 707-599-4002.

Organizers are still seeking monetary and material donations such as tents, breakfast foods and people to help run games during the event.
