Third District supervisor candidate Bryan Plumley’s campaign announced Thursday that Plumley has received endorsements from former state Assemblymember and retired Arcata City Manager Dan Hauser, retired Arcata Director of Environmental Services Steve Tyler and former Arcata City Councilmember and Mayor Sam Pennisi.
Hauser, who served on the Arcata City Council from 1974-82 — four of those years as mayor — represented the 2nd District in the California Assembly from 1982-92, and was Arcata’s city manager from 2001-06.
“I am very impressed with Bryan’s progressive ideas, his experience and his enthusiasm. I am convinced that Bryan is best qualified to carry out the legacy and ideals that are important to Arcata and the 3rd District,” Hauser stated in the release.
Tyler worked for the city of Arcata from 1979-2005 in many capacities, as wastewater treatment operator for eight years, water/wastewater lead treatment operator for two years, deputy director of Public Works for three years, interim city manager, and environmental services director from 1992-2005.
“Bryan is an excellent team player who understands and utilizes teamwork,” Tyler stated in the release.
“This quality enables him to analyze, organize, problem solve and provide creativity, enthusiasm, and leadership when working with individuals or diverse groups that may have varied opinions. Additionally, he also has the ability to see beyond the immediate objective to the ultimate goal of a completed issue or project,” he said.
“I have known and worked with all three 3rd District supervisor candidates for the past several years. Based on my experiences and working relationships, with all the candidates, I feel Bryan is the most qualified and clearly the best candidate for 3rd District supervisor,” Tyler stated.
Pennisi, who served on the Arcata City Council from 1976-92 and as Arcata mayor from 1982-84, added, “What I see is that our next supervisor will need not only an understanding of the issues and the ability to lead, but also the ability to provide the extensive management and oversight skills that are necessary for governing at the county level. That is why I am supporting Bryan Plumley as the right choice for 3rd District supervisor.”
Plumley remarked, “These endorsements mean a lot to me. This is a group of forward-thinking people who were on the ground floor in making Arcata the great place it is today. Their experience spans decades and their endorsements speak to the values I will bring to the job if I am elected.”
