Pacific Gas and Electric Company will be replacing equipment at its Garberville Substation Saturday, June 21.

PG&E stated in a press release that the construction is being performed on equipment that has reached the end of its useful life, and needs to be replaced in order to maintain the integrity and reliability of the electric system for North Coast residents and businesses.

The work being completed is in conjunction with the work that took place on March 29, 2008. Saturday evening’s work is the final portion of a multi part construction project.

In order to perform this maintenance work safely, PG&E will have to turn off electricity to 2,500 customers in the towns of Bells Springs, Garberville Kekawaka, Laytonville, Leggett, Piercy, Redway, and Whitethorn. The planned shutdown is expected to start at 9 p.m., Saturday night, and will last until approximately 10 a.m., Sunday morning.
