Construction of Old Arcata Road will begin July 14

Humboldt County was awarded a grant by the state of California to widen and realign Old Arcata Road/Myrtle Avenue from Three Corners to Stevens Lane, the Department of Public Works stated in a news release.

Utility relocation is currently under way and road construction will begin July 14 and continue through December.

During construction there will be traffic delays. The contractor is proposing to temporarily close the road to through traffic and/or allow one lane of traffic and use traffic controllers at either end of the site.

Government vehicle auction postponed

The U.S. Forest Service surplus vehicle and equipment sale previously scheduled for Monday has been postponed because of heavy involvement by all personnel in the fire fighting activities currently underway on all four national forests, the Forest Service stated in a news release.

The surplus sale for items on the Klamath, Mendocino, Six Rivers and Shasta-Trinity National Forests will be rescheduled for later this year. An announcement will be made when the sale is scheduled.

Fortuna Hospital receives award

Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna has been named a national award winner in health care service quality for “Exemplary Service Overall Best Performer 2007” by Avatar International Inc., a health care research and consulting firm.

The award is based on the results of the hospital’s 2007 patient surveys. It is awarded to those hospitals with the highest overall combined score for Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Ambulatory Surgery.

In 2001, the hospital embarked on a journey into holistic, patient-centered care that forms the foundation for all programs, services and outreach offered to patients, families and the community.
