A Day to Remember — Brannen and Allina

Brannen Sorem and Allina Bryan, both from McKinleyville, were married in a small ceremony in Lake Tahoe, Calif. Bran is a freelance Web programmer, and a student at College of the Redwoods and Foothill College. Allina is a nursing student, in her second year at Humboldt State University. She also works part time at Mad River Birth Center as an aide. They live in McKinleyville and have a beautiful beagle named Belle. During their free time, they enjoy walking Belle on the Hammond Trail, going to movies and spending time with friends and family. They plan to take a road trip to Vancouver this summer for their honeymoon.

Birthing ‘under the table’

In California, midwives everywhere are doing home births “under the table.” Whether they’ve been certified or trained on the job by another midwife, these women are practicing medicine without the supervision of a physician, which California law requires.

Sovereign 60th Anniversary

Guy and Martha Sovereign of Eureka celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 1. + Guy Sovereign and Martha Pevey were married May 1, 1948, at the Salvation Army Church in Eureka. They are lifelong residents of Eureka. Their children are Connie Meisner and John Sovereign, both of Eureka. They have three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Eureka girl’s wish to go to Disney World granted
