Casino Royale

When I hear the words “Casino Royale,” what immediately comes to mind is style, elegance, gambling and intrigue. One cannot help but picture a beautiful casino located on a cliff overlooking the French Riviera, with a dashing figure bedecked in a perfectly tailored Brioni tuxedo walking through announcing that his name is “Bond, James Bond.”

Rep Fest 2008

When we think of the Ferndale Repertory Theatre, what comes to mind is an extremely talented and hardworking group that provides the community with wonderful live performances of classics such as “The Sound of Music” and “To Kill a Mocking Bird.” On Saturday, March 8 at the Ferndale Pavilion, the Ferndale Rep delivered what we all have come to expect from the imaginative group when it hosted its annual Rep Fest. The 150 attendees enjoyed the extravagant costumes worn by many guests representing favorite theatrical productions such as “Grease” and “Guys and Dolls.”

A Beach Party In Winter…?

Typically, when we think of a beach party, what comes to mind is lying on white sandy beaches sipping a cold piña colada while basking in the sun. While most of us were continuing to make it through the last remnants of winter, the Discovery Museum held its annual beach-themed party March 7. The beach party is the kickoff event for those daredevils who have the courage to take a plunge into Humboldt Bay during the Perilous Plunge.

The chocolate flowed as readily as the conversation in a scene that would have made Willy Wonka himself green with envy, at Vector Rehabilitation’s 25th annual Gala Chocolate Party held yesterday afternoon at the Wharfinger. If the cocoa-scented air wasn’t enough to entice attendees into the sweet paradise, the jazzy sounds of the Jim Lahman Blues Quartet lured them in with an extra spring in their step.
