Local post offices host passport fairs

On Saturday, the Eureka Downtown post office and Arcata post office will be open to assist customers with applying for and renewing their passports. The Eureka post office at Fifth and H streets will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Arcata post office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

‘No child should live in fear’

The Humboldt County chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse held its third annual 100-mile run and poker tournament Sunday afternoon in Eureka. B.A.C.A. members across the nation and in Australia ride their motorcycles during Child Abuse Awareness month to raise money for survivors of child abuse.

‘420’ gathering brings more than a thousand to Redwood Park

Consuming comestibles from ganja ice cream to hash lollipops — or even hash itself — more than 1,000 people gathered at Redwood Park on Sunday to celebrate “420” — a reference commonly used when referring to marijuana culture.

Classical music group from Arcata to play vintage-style instruments at dockside welcome

Only one of a pair of tall ships will make it to Humboldt County this year. The tall ship Hawaiian Chieftain, scheduled to arrive in Eureka on Thursday has been delayed due to a mechanical problem discovered late last week during her visit to Sausalito.

Fortuna students graduate from DARE program

The Fortuna Police Department announced that approximately 150 fifth-grade students will graduate from its Drug Abuse Resistance Education program today. The graduation ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Fortuna River Lodge, 1800 Riverwalk Drive.
