Sept. 28 6:17 p.m. The Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department responded to Riverwalk Drive and extinguished an abandoned campfire. The scene was declared secure at 6:35 p.m.

Sept. 20 5:44 a.m. The Arcata Fire Protection District responded to the 1400 block of Reasor Road for reports of a vehicle fire. Firefighters arrived to find a fire burning in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Sept. 13 11:55 a.m. The Arcata Fire Protection District responded to the 2300 block of Plunkett Road for reports of a vegetation fire. Firefighters arrived to find a planned burn that had grown out-of-control. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Sept. 7 10:17 p.m. The Arcata Fire Protection District and Samoa Peninsula Fire Protection District responded to state Route 255 near the Samoa bridge for reports of a vehicle fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. While en route to the call, fire crews found an additional vehicle with a flare burning on the driver’s side floorboard. The cause of the vehicle fires is under investigation.

Aug. 28 3:32 a.m. The Arcata Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 5700 block of West End Road for reports of a fire. Firefighters arrived to find a debris pile burning. Firefighters moved quickly to extinguish the fire and protect the structures around the pile. Firefighters determined the fire was caused by a barrel full of rags soaked in linseed oil, which had ignited and spread to the pile of debris.

Aug. 23 3:40 p.m. The Arcata Fire Protection District and Eureka Fire Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Stamps Lane on the Samoa Peninsula for reports of a large vegetation fire. Firefighters arrived on scene and determined the fire was approximately 40 by 80 feet large in a grassy area. The Eureka Fire Department was canceled, and Arcata fire crews extinguished the fire with approximately 700 gallons of water. The cause of the fire was not determined.

Aug. 14 4:08 p.m. The Arcata Fire Protection District responded to Clam Beach at the west end of Murray Road for reports of an unattended campfire. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a log that was smoldering. Firefighters extinguished the log.
