Sept. 15 9:17 a.m. Officers responded to the 100 block of 12th Street for reports of two male subjects shooting a rifle in the alley. Officers arrived on scene and found that the two males were juveniles who were shooting at rats with a pellet gun. The juveniles were advised of the complaint.

Ryan to serve as Public Works Director/City Engineer

The city of Fortuna has a new public works director/city engineer in place. Dennis Ryan, who has worked as Fortuna’s city engineer since January, has accepted the position of public works director/city engineer as of Sept. 15, according to a news release from the city of Fortuna.

FPD Logs Sept. 2 4:05 a.m. A resident in the 3200 block of Smith Lane phoned to report that a male subject was observed checking the door handles of the vehicle belonging to the resident. When the resident called out to the man, he fled the scene. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the subject.

Police canine nets felony warrant suspect

On Sunday at approximately 3:58 a.m., Fortuna Police Department officers responded to Fortuna River Lodge for a report of loud subjects in the area. Upon officers’ arrival, one of the subjects, identified as Francisco Javier James, fled into the brush and was sprayed by a skunk.
