Fill the boot

Firefighters from the Humboldt Fire District and Eureka Fire Department collected money for Jerry’s Kids at the Bayshore Mall, Saturday. Arcata firefighters also accepted donations on the Arcata Plaza. The goal of the “Fill The Boot” project is to raise $10,000 to send local children living with muscular dystrophy to a weeklong summer camp. Donations can also be made at local fire stations. Annual collectibles sale

The Historical Sites Society of Arcata will hold its annual collectibles sale Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will be held at the Phillips House Museum, Seventh and Union streets, Arcata. Aug 9 The Natural History Museum’s 5th annual Yard and Plant Sale is on Saturday. The hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum seeks donations of gently used books, sporting goods, clothes, furniture, kitchen supplies and children’s items, etc. No computers or other hard-to-dispose-of items. June 28 Indian Tacos and car wash on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Shoreline Market Orick. This fundraiser supports Kaley Cortini for Orick Rodeo Princess. As a concert pianist, she is a well-known performer on North Coast stages, as well as in venues around the world, and on television, radio and recordings. As a teacher at Humboldt State University, she has trained prize-winning keyboard artists. She has been an activist and advocate for music education.
