Redwood Tole Folk awards art scholarships

Redwood Tole Folk awarded its 2008 Art Scholarship to Danielle DeMartini from McKinleyville High School. It also awarded the Irene Manning Memorial Art Scholarship to Anastasia Andrews of Eureka High School.

Rebecca Rice of Fortuna High wins Dell Scholarship

Rebecca Rice has been chosen as a finalist in the Dell Scholars Program as one of 250 other finalists chosen in the country to receive $20,000, a laptop and printer.

The College of the Redwoods Scholarship Office hosted their annual reception and luncheon Thursday afternoon to honor recipients and scholarship contributors. Through a variety of programs and numerous donations, the Scholarship Office has contributed between $250,000 to $300,000 in scholarships to further educational opportunities, said CR Foundation member Ann Fielding.

Humboldt Harmonaires to award $1,000 music scholarship

The Humboldt Harmonaires Barbershop Chorus is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a local high school senior who intends to study music in college. The award will be made at the Harmonaires’ spring show on April 19.

New event benefits Soroptimist scholarships

Soroptimist International of Humboldt Bay will hold a new fundraising event, Take a Walk in Her Shoes, to benefit women and girls throughout the community. Those attending will watch 15 prominent men from the community walk in women’s shoes. Event activities begin at 5:30 p.m. on April 9 at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka.

The Jim Stanard Music Book Scholarship for Vocalists

April 15 and May 31 The Humboldt Light Opera Company’s first presentation of the Jim Stanard Music Book Scholarship for Vocalists will take place May 31 during the company’s 35th anniversary show at the Van Duzer Theatre on the Humboldt State University campus.

Isabel Cortes of Fortuna Union High School has been selected from 26,000 high schools nationwide to receive a cash scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.

Due in February Due Feb. 1: THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY LIONS CLUBS are currently searching for high school students who are interested in participating in the California Lions 71st Annual Student Speaker Contest. This year’s topic is “Immigration — My Solution.” Speeches are to be as close to 10 minutes as possible without going over. Contestants have the chance of winning up to $250 in cash and more than $20,000 in scholarships. Club level contests will be held in February.
